The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, addresses a debate about which solution is best used to resuscitate patients whose blood pressure has dropped dramatically.

Study authors evaluated results from several different studies along with existing research. They concluded that hydroxyethyl starch (HES) solution may not be better than other solutions.

A Canadian study, which analyzed results from 38 trials, showed that patients who received an infusion of hydroxyethyl starch weren't any less likely to die than those treated with other types of blood volume boosters. However, the study excluded data from several studies conducted by a German doctor who found that the infusion was in fact associated with a higher risk for death and kidney injury.

According to study authors, hydroxyethyl starch solution should not be used for the resuscitation of critically ill patients until more trials are conducted.

The new study suggests that hydroxyethyl starch is not a safer alternative to other solutions and that it can actually increase a patient's risk for death and kidney failure. Frequency Domain Reflectometry (FDR) distance-to-fault measurements are used to characterize antenna systems. The distance-to-fault measurements can easily spot poor connections, contamination, damaged cables, and water penetration. The S412E's Vector Network Analyzer offers excellent transmission dynamic range performance (> 100 dB) that can be used to view and adjust the RF performance of critical RF devices including filters, duplexers, transmitter combiners, receiver multi-couplers and tower-mounted amplifiers. The Vector Network Analyzer measurements (in either frequency or time domain) are quickly displayed and updated with the S412E's fast 850 μs/point sweep speed, and the VNA display is variable from 2 to 4001 data points allowing maximum flexibility for custom setups. For users who prefer a more streamlined interface, the LMR Master's VNA display can be set to emulate a Site Master.

Module Racks: Up to four module racks may be used with a single rack interfaced card. One rack may be integral, located on the front of the Computer Module, and the satellite racks can be placed some way from the poles. Each module rack can hold up to either 6 (M1276A Satellite Rack) or 8 (M1041A Satellite Rack) single-width plug-in modules.

The Fluke 1625-2 earth ground tester is able to measure earth ground loop resistances using only clamps. With this test method, two clamps are placed around the earth ground rod and each are connected to the tester. No earth ground stakes are used at all. A known, fixed voltage is induced by one clamp and the current is measured using the second clamp. Then the tester automatically determines the resistance of the earth ground rod. This test method only works if a bonded earth ground system exists for the building or structure under test, but most are. If there is only one path to ground, like at many residential applications, the Stakeless method will not provide an acceptable value and the Fall of Potential test method must be used.

With Stakeless testing, the earth ground rod does not need to be disconnected - leaving the bonded earth ground system intact during test. Gone are the days of spending time placing and connecting stakes for each earth ground rod on your system - a major time saver. You can also perform earth ground tests in places you’ve not considered before: inside buildings, power pylons, or anywhere you don’t have access to soil.

The Fluke 1625-2 is a unique earth ground tester that can performs all four types of earth ground measurement:
